Produkt Management
Product tree
Tree pruning is a good metaphor for product management. A tall tree needs a stable tree trunk (product core). It stands on solid ground (market conditions) in the company. Only when there are enough nutrients (support, finances, ideas, company values) in the soil can the product continue to grow. The customers of the product stand around the tree.
Leading questions:
- What is the core of the product (main branches)?
- What kind of tree (product) is it at the moment?
- What kind of tree (product) should it be in a year or two?
- How exactly should the product (tree) look in 2-3 years?
- Which branches should be cut (short term)?
- Is there any wild growth?
- Which branches do we want to cut (long term)?
- How can we thin out the tree?
- Which areas of the product need more sunlight?
- Which product area should continue to grow?
- Is the tree healthy?
- Should we plant a second tree/offshoot?
